谁关心中文学校的教学质量?
This sounds like a very silly question, especially the question is asked by myself, as principal of a weekend Chinese School.
Today I had a meeting with PTA (Parent Teacher Association). I asked their suggestion on improving the teaching quality. Well, the first impression is, not all parents really care what students learn within the school ! Parent's goal is to give kids a chance to learn. In case students want, they can eventually take Chinese as second language when they are in high school, etc… So you see, the expectation is really not linked to any expectation at all.
This is so far one of the big problem when we teach Chinese in the weekend school. We are teaching but we don’t have a clear assessment of the goal. The lack of assessment leads to the lack of mission and further leads to the low quality. Then most of the Chinese school finally turn to be more like a community center, a social place for parent.
Shouldn't we re-consider what is the real value of a Chinese School?
